Vienna -
The best and worst
times to visit
Insights you need to know
Best times
May and June
Temperatures are comfortable, daylight sightseeing hours are long, and the summer tourist mobs have yet to arrive.
September and October
From about mid-September onwards, the air is refreshingly cool and tourist crowds become manageable.
Least desirable times
December to February
It is truly cold (think freezing daytime temperatures). And snowfalls could hamper your sightseeing outings.
However, despite the cold, snowy weather, there is one short winter time that's extra special: Christmas and New Year's (see #3).
July and August
Vienna swarms with tourists, so expect high prices, long lines, and hard-to-get concert tickets and hotel reservations.

Festivals and concerts
Vienna is famous for them. They take place the year round, so you are almost gauranteed that something will be going on during your visit.
Christmas Mart
and New Year's Concert
Noted Christmas marts thrive in several locations. Homes and shops are decorated with colorful Christmas lights. Vienna wraps up its year with its internationally renowned New Year's concert. These and other allures bring visitors galore, so book your hotel room months in advance.
