Staying in an over-water bungalow for one or more days before or after the cruise extends your romantic experience.

Between the two, I prefer the pre-cruise stay. It gives you a chance to conquer jet lag before the cruise begins.

You can book an over-water bungalow directly with the resort - or with Regent Seven Seas Cruises or your travel agent when you book your cruise.

Usually, you can save money by purchasing your pre- or post-cruise over-water accommodations as part of the overall cruise package.

My favorite island for a pre- or post-cruise resort is Moorea, French Polynesia's most beautiful island.

Don't expect sumptuous facilities, gorgeous beaches, pampering service, and a bevy of entertainment and activities in a mid-price resort - but your money will last longer. Club Bali Hai on Moorea is the most famous and interesting in this category. Its view of Cook's Bay is stunning.
