Serengeti Migration

Over a million animals annually trek the circular Serengeti Migration route in search of water and pasturage. Safari-goers see wild lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, elephants, and more.

Kenya &Tanzania.

Galapagos Islands

The islands' isolation allowed the creatures on the Galapagos Islands to evolve differently than their distant ancestors on the South American continent. Charles Darwin made the Galapagos famous.

Pacific off Ecuador.

Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon took over a billion years to develop. Its depth, width and magnificent views exceed the expectations of most visitors.

Southwest USA.

Antarctica

It has raw natural beauty - icebergs, glaciers, jagged mountain peaks, and more.  Antarctica is also rich in wildlife, including penguins, seals and whales.

Bottom of the world.

Iguazu Falls

The water plummets over a wide set of rims that are as high as a 24 story building. Iguazu Falls is far more spectacular than Niagara Falls, but only slightly more so than Victoria Falls (which ranks #8 among the world's natural wonders).

Brazil & Argentina.

Amazon Rain Forest

The Amazon Rain Forest is immense (spans most of South America's width). It has a jungle dense with unique vegetation - and a snaking river network.

Mainly Brazil & Peru

Ngorongoro Crater

Many major safari animals are "trapped" on a vast round plain surrounded by the high walls of a collapsed ancient volcano. The Ngorongoro Crater is a vivid experience for adventure travelers.

Tanzania.

Great Barrier Reef

This tropical archipelago is situated off the continent's northeast coast. The Great Barrier Reef is passionately praised by divers, snorkelers, and glass bottom boaters for its coral fish and reef viewing.

Northeast Australian.

Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls is almost as breathtaking as Iguazu Falls, which is ranked just four notches higher on my natural wonders list.

Zambia & Zimbabwe.

Bora Bora

Bora Bora has been called the world's most beautiful island because of its soaring volcano core encircled by a blue lagoon ringed by a coral reef.

French Polynesia.

About my top ten

Natural Wonders rankings

The selections are the first 10 natural wonders on my Top 100 Wonders of the World list, which I have been impartially researching and updating since 1968. My Top 100 list includes both natural and man made wonders. Scroll down this page to view my complete top 100 list.

Note: Antarctica is not on my top 10 natural wonders list because it is a continent (like Europe), not an individual wonder. Click the "Antarctica Guide" button at the bottom of this page to see photos and descriptions of its wonders.
