Millau Bridge

travel  wonder in France

Why
Millau Bridge
is special

The Millau Bridge in southern France is the world's most spectacularly designed modern bridge (see photo). It is more than just a viaduct. It has become a sightseeing destination.

Tips & insights on

Millau Bridge

Its top rises 343 meters (1125 feet) about the Tarn River valley floor.

The 7-piered Millau Bridge measures 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) across.

The Millau Bridge eliminates the traffic-jammed valley route on the motorway linking Paris with Barcelona, Spain.

Before the viaduct was constructed, it could take summertime motorists an hour or more to traverse the valley. Now, they can do it in less than 2 minutes.

The four-lane Millau Bridge opened in 2005 and can accommodate 25,000 vehicles per day.

The Millau Bridge is dreamlike when morning fog creates the impression that it is floating on clouds.
