Beijing -
The best and worst
times to visit
Insights you need to know
Best times
September and October
Enjoy blue skies, pleasant temperatures, and low humidity
Second best: May
It boasts sunny skies plus comfortable temperatures and humidity.
Major exemptions for
the two above periods
Avoid the first week of May and October. Domestic tourists flood Beijing for the May Day and National Day public holidays.
Least desirable times
July and August
Tourist crowds, air pollution, hot temperatures, high humidity, and heavy rainfall can ruin your vacation.
December to March
Freezing temperatures coupled with wind create bitterly cold weather. And, winter is one of the two worst seasons for air pollution (summer being the other).
More insights
April is chancy because massive sandstorms can sweep down from the Gobi Desert.
In general, avoid national public holidays because transportation and hotel availability will be scarce. Remember, Chinese like going home for the holidays.
